Pro-life Ministry

Our Mission

Dear Friends in Jesus Christ, The mission of the Queen Mary Pro-Life Ministries to promote and spread the Gospel of Life- through prayer, evangelization, and direct action, in order to cultivate a greater respect for human life and nurture hearts that recognize the unique, unrepeatable, and invaluable dignity of every human person. It isdedicated to publicly defending the sanctity of human life, from conception until natural death in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and saving lives from abortion.

Catholic Church & Abortion

From the beginning, the Catholic Church has spoken out against abortion: a teaching which, according to the Cathchism of the Catholic Church 2271, "has not changed and remains unchangeable."

Early Christians were well known for the fact that they wered opposed to abortion as well as infanticide. In the first three centuries abortion was condemned regardless of what stage of the pregnancy it was performed. From the 4th century distinctions were made between early and late abortions although it was still regarded as immoral. In 1869 Pope Pious IX determined that abortion at any stage of pregnancy required excommunication. Abortion has been formally condemned by Pope John Paul II inEvangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life).

Abortion advocates and Catholic dissenters frequently make inaccurate and misleading statements about the Catholic Church's current and historical teaching on abortion. From the beginning the Catholic Church has always spoken out against abortion: a teaching which, according to the Cathchism of the Catholic Church 2271, "has not changed and remains unchangeable."

The New Testament

Although there are no specific references to abortion in the Bible, the New Testament teaches the clear relationship God had with the unborn Jesus. Soon after Mary conceived she went on a journey to visit her pregnant older cousin Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, her child, John the Baptist, "leaps for joy" in her womb.

Elizabeth greeted Mary as already being the "mother of my Lord," (Luke 1:41-44) despite the fact that she was at an early stage of her pregnancy. The Catholic Church later, at the procil of Chalcedon in 451AD, made a solemn declaration that Jesus became a human being at the moment of conception. The implications of this for the moral status of all unborn children, has always been significant for Catholics since, according to Scripture, Jesus is "like us in all things but sin." (Heb.4:15)

Christian Tradition

From its very foundation, the Catholic Church has spoken out against abortion. In the Didache (Teaching of the Twelve Apostles) which dates from the 1st century, abortion is condemned along with infanticide. Early Christians in pagan times were well-known for the fact that they were as opposed to abortion as they were to 'exposing' newborn babies so that they would die. In the first three centuries of Christianity, abortion was condemned no matter at what stage of the pregnancy it was performed. The writer Tertullian wrote in 197AD:

"It does not matter whether you take away a life that is born, or destroy one that is coming to the birth. In both instances, destruction is murder. "It does not matter whether you take away a life that is born, or destroy one that is coming to the birth. In both instances, destruction is murder. "For us [Christians], murder being once for all forbidden, we may not destroy even the foetus in the womb, while as yet the human being derives blood from other parts of the body for its sustenance.

"To hinder a birth is merely a quicker murder; nor does it matter whether you take away a life that is born, or destroy one that is coming to the birth. That is a man which is going to be one; you have the fruit already present in the seed." - Apologia 9.4-6, (Tertullian was later condemned as a Montanist heretic by the Catholic Church, but that had nothing to do with his condemnation of abortion.). Many early Christian Writers such as Athenagoras, Basil the Great, Jerome, Origen, Cyprian, John Chrysotom, and others, all opposed abortion. The procil of Ancyra (314) referred to an ancient law that excommunicated women who deliberately aborted their children. It was agreed that abortion was seriously wrong, but for centuries theologians could not reach agreement as to whether or not a child had a rational soul from the moment of conception.

Distinctions and Disagreements

From the fourth century onwards, distinctions came to be drawn. Augustine, has been quoted as permitting abortion because a "soul cannot live in an unformed body," thus early abortion could not be murder since no soul had been destroyed.(On Exodus, 21, 80) Despite that statement, Augustine also warned against the terrible crime of "the murder of an unborn child" (On Marriage, 1.17.15). It was agreed that abortion was seriously wrong, but for centuries theologians could not reach agreement as to whether or not a child had a rational soul from the moment of conception.

The Decretals of Pope Gregory IX,(a papal letter or decree giving a decision on a point or question of canon law) the first collection of church laws promulgated with papal authority for the universal church in 1324, list one canon which designates as a "murderer" one who causes an abortion. The decretals kept the notion of "formed" and "nonformed" to determine the kinds of penalties to be applied for this crime. Throughout the 13th and succeeding centuries the particular procils of the Church continued to strongly condemnedabortion.

he first significant papal legislation to invoke penal sanctions against abortion was the Constitution "EFFRAENATAM" of Pope Sixtus V (1585-90) of October 29, 1588. This constitution listed severe penalties against the crime of abortion of an unborn child without any reference at all being made to the distinction of whether the foetus was animated or nonanimated. Apart from the great schism of Photius and when the Eastern Othodox Church broke with Rome, the Church was "One" until the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, and abortion wasuniversallycondemned.

Pope Gregory XIV in 1591 slightly altered the constitution of Sixtus V to apply the harsh penalties only to those cases which involved the abortion of an animated fetus (one whose movements could be felt). However, his constitution still taught the grave seriousness of the offense of any abortion. Apart from the great schism of Photius and then that of Caerularius, in the ninth and eleventh centuries, when the Eastern Othodox Church broke with Rome, the Church was "One" until the Protestant Reformation which started with Luther in the 16th century, and abortion was universally condemned. The 'abuse' of indulgences furnished Luther with an opportunity to attack indulgences in general, and this attack was the immediate occasion of the Reformation in Germany. A little later the same motive led Zwingli to put forth his teachings, thereby inaugurating the Reformation in German Switzerland.

Both Luther and Zwingli declared that they were attacking only the abuses of indulgences; however, they soon taught doctrine in many ways contrary to the teaching of the Church. In Germany, Luther had omitted the word Catholic from the Creed, but this was not the case in England. The term "Roman" or "Romish" Catholic first came into use by Protestant writers in the early 17th century who highly resented the Roman claim to any monopoly of the term Catholic. With few exceptions, Catholics were united in accepting the authority of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church on its condemnation of abortion. Until this time Catholics were united in accepting the authority of the Magisterium (teaching body) of the Catholic Church on its condemnation of abortion, although there have always been individual and small groups of dissenters just as there are today.

The Penalty of Excommunication

In 1869 Pope Pius IX returned to immediate post-apostolic times and determined that abortion at any stage of pregnancy required excommunication. Many interpreted this change of attitude by the church as a proter to the rising birth control movement, particularly in France where the Catholic population was declining. In 1869 in ApostolicaeSedis, Pope Pius IX returned to immediate post-apostolic times and determined that abortion at any stage of pregnancy required excommunication. He said all abortion was homicide. (Many interpreted this change of attitude by the church as a proter to the rising birth control movement, particularly in France where the Catholic population had been declining for the previous 60 years.)

The Catholic Church has always regarded abortion as a grave sin but, from the 19th century onwards, came to have a deeper understanding of how it destroys one's personal relationship with God. The Catholic Church has always regarded abortion as a grave sin but, from the 19th century onwards, came to have a deeper understanding of how it destroys one's personal relationship with God. Changes in the canonical penalty for a specific sin reflect how the Church works to wean people away from sin and towards heaven. They did not reflect a change in the Church.s condemnation of the sin. The Catholic Church concerns itself with faith and morals, not biology, and Church officials over the centuries were simply attempting to shed light on the development of the unborn child, given contemporary biological knowledge.

The 1974 Declaration on Procured Abortion states:

The first right of the human person is his life... this one is fundamental-- the condition of all the others. "The first right of the human person is his life... this one is fundamental-- the condition of all the others. Hence it must be protected above all others. It does not belong to society, nor does it belong to public authority in any form to recognize this right for some and not for others... "...respect for human life is called for from the time that the process of generation begins. From the time that the ovum is fertilized, a life is begun which is neither that of the father nor of the mother, it is rather the life of a new human being with his own growth. It would never be made human if it were not human already."

In 1987, another document, Donum Vitae (The Instruction on Respect for Human Life in its Origin and on the Dignity of Procreation) said: "...the inalienable rights of the person must be recognized and respected by civil society and the political authority. These human rights depend neither on single individuals nor on parents; nor do they represent a concession made by society and the state: they pertain to human nature and are inherent in the person by virtue of the creative act from which the person took his or her origin." "Among such fundamental rights one should mention in this regard ... every human being's right to life and physical integrity from the moment of conception until death..." The law cannot tolerate that human beings, even at the embryonic stage, should be treated as objects of experimentation, be mutilated or destroyed with the excuse that they are superfluous or incapable of developing normally.

"As a consequence of the respect and protection which must be ensured for the unborn child from the moment of his conception, the law must provide appropriate penal sanctions for every deliberate violation of the child's rights. The law cannot tolerate -- indeed it must expressly forbid -- that human beings, even at the embryonic stage, should be treated as objects of experimentation, be mutilated or destroyed with the excuse that they are superfluous or incapable of developing normally." In 1989, the New Zealand Catholic Bishops' Conference issued a Statement What's Wrong With Abortion? indefence of the unborn child's right to life.

Evangelium Vitae -The Gospel of Life

In Evangelium Vitae, the Church recognises that "decisions that go against life sometimes arise from difficult or even tragic situations of profound suffering, loneliness, a total lack of economic prospects, depression and anxiety about the future..." The 'Gospel of Life' details what the Catholic Church believes and teaches about the sacredness of human life and the duty of every person to protect the innocent and vulnerable, and to show care and respect, above all where life is undermined by sickness and old age. "Among all the crimes which can be committed against life, procured abortion has characteristics making it particularly serious and deplorable. The Second Vatican procil defines abortion, together with infanticide, as an "unspeakable crime" The excommunication affects all those who commit this crime with knowledge of the penalty attached, and thus includes those accomplices without whose help the crime would not have been committed.

Canon Law (the officially established rules of the Church) decrees that "a person who actually procures an abortion incurs automatic (lataesententiae) excommunication". The excommunication affects all those who commit this crime with knowledge of the penalty attached, and thus includes those accomplices without whose help the crime would not have been committed. It called on women to transform the culture so that it supports life, and to promote a "new feminism" which rejects the temptation of imitating models of "male domination", in order to acknowledge and affirm the true genius of women in every aspect of the life of society, and overcome all discrimination, violence and exploitation. In EV the Pope had a special word to women who have had an abortion, asking them to understand what happened and face it honestly. He asked that they "give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance" in order to find God's forgiveness and peac

The Sin of Abortion

"Human life must be respected and protectedabsolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, ahuman being must be recognized as having therights of a person — among which is theinviolable right of every innocent being to life." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 2270). "Since the first century the Church hasaffirmed the moral evil of every procuredabortion. This teaching has not changed andremains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that isto say, abortion willed either as an end or ameans, is gravely contrary to the moral law…." (CCC, n. 2271).

Direct abortion, deliberately chosen as anend or a means, is an objective mortal sin.Formal cooperation in abortion, such asencouraging someone to get an abortion, helping someone get an abortion, or paying foran abortion is also gravely immoral and amortal sin. Direct abortion is never justified, nomatter what the circumstances or intention. "The fifth commandment forbids as gravelycontrary to the moral law … direct abortion, willed as an end or as means, as well ascooperation in it." (Compendium of theCatechism, n. 470).The sin of abortion carries with it a penaltyof excommunication, but this penalty does notapply if the individual did not know, at thetime, about the penalty of excommunication.

Forgiveness from Sin

If you have had an abortion, or if you helpedsomeone get an abortion, you committed anobjective mortal sin. Any and all sins can beforgiven in the Sacrament of Reconciliation:

1. Examine your conscience, by comparingyour choices in life to Church teaching. 2. Repent, by admitting that you knowinglychose to do some things that are wrong, andthen resolve to turn away from sin and towardtrue love of God and neighbor. 3. Confess your sins to a priest in confession. Then you are forgiven by God. 4. You should also do penance for your sins:e.g. prayer, self-denial, works of mercy.

But even with out penance, your sins are forgiven. If you are unable to go to Confession, you canobtain forgiveness immediately by making anact of perfect contrition: this act is usually aprayer to God, expressing true sorrow for sin,and true repentance from sin, out of love forGod, with the resolve to avoid sin. Then go toConfession at your next opportunity.Contrition (or repentance) is "perfect when itis motivated by love of God and imperfect if itrests on other motives." (Compendium, n. 303)True sorrow for sin is a willing admission ofguilt, and a regret, for past sins. Repentancefrom sin is a deliberate turning away from sinand toward the love of God and neighbor

Pope John Paul II:

"I would like to say a special word to women who have had anabortion. The Church is aware of the manyfactors which may have influenced yourdecision, and she does not doubt that in manycases it was a painful and even shatteringdecision. The wound in your heart may not yethave healed. Certainly what happened was andremains terribly wrong. But do not give in todiscouragement and do not lose hope. Tryrather to understand what happened and face ithonestly."

"If you have not already done so, giveyourselves over with humility and trust torepentance. The Father of mercies is ready togive you his forgiveness and his peace in theSacrament of Reconciliation. You will come tounderstand that nothing is definitely lost andyou will also be able to ask forgiveness fromyour child, who is now living in the Lord." "With the friendly and expert help andadvice of other people, and as a result of yourown painful experience, you can be among themost eloquent defenders of everyone's right tolife. Through your commitment to life, whetherby accepting the birth of other children or bywelcoming and caring for those most in need ofsomeone to be close to them, you will becomepromoters of a new way of looking at humanlife." (The Gospel of Life, n. 99).

Queen Mary Ministry providing hope and healing to those wounded by abortion Through the retreats and spiritual proseling

"I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion… The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. After an abortion, a woman typically experiences deep emotional and spiritual pain. She may carry her burden in silence for years, sometimes engaging in further harmful behaviors — often another abortion — in an effort to deny its reality. Though her faith may assure her that God forgives those who seek His forgiveness, she often struggles to fully accept it.

The retreat and proceling offers spiritual and psychological healing to help the wounded person grieve the loss of the unborn child and accept God's forgiveness. Many describe it as a profound experience of love and renewal, of being brought back from death to new life.

Believe.... Pray.... Save....

How many children are aborted? Worldwide, 55 million unborn children are killed every year. Around the world, every day 150,685 children are killed by abortion; every hour, 6278; and every minute, 105. Those are the reported cases.

If you are an American citizen, no doubt your greatest interest is in your own nation, as is mine. Let me break the abortions down to a national statistic: 1,600,000 babies are aborted in these United States every year. Per day, that's 4,383; per hour, that's 183; per minute, there are 3.

THE POWER OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY

Blessed Mother says: "Praise be to Jesus. Dear children, when you pray the rosary, you hold the power in your hands todefeat Satan's agenda in the world. With the prayer of the rosary, you can assist Me in lifting the veil of deceit Satan has placed over the heart of the world. With the rosary, you allow Me to extend many graces into the world which God would have withheld because of mankind's infidelity to the Truth."

"Dear children, you do not understand the power of a rosary said from the heart, but I tell you, that no leader, no government, no peace accord or economic remedy can compare to the mighty force of this prayer. The enemy hides this from you. My words to you today challenge the darkness of his secrecy with the Light of Truth. Do not be misled to believe your efforts are ineffective. How to Pray the ProLife Rosary

(May be said on a regular rosary, too)

The Crucifix: Lord, for all those who say " I don't believe", I say" I believe in God"...continue saying the Creed. Our Father (Clear or white beads): Offer the first Our Father for the intentions of our Holy Father the Pope. 3 Hail Mary's (purple: represents the Lord's Passion and Death)

Pray:

Lord, I offer these 3 Hail Mary's for an increase in Faith, Hope, and Love in all people so that all people will always choose life, and I also offer them in reparation for the suffering You endure each time an unborn babe is killed, each time someone is euthanized, each time death overcomes life in this world. Amen

(Then continue with saying the 3 Hail Mary's)

First Decade (Aqua-Blue and Clear or White beads)
State the Mystery of the day

Pray:

Dear Lord, Dear Mother Mary, every aqua bead in this decade is special, for on it I pray that 'Hail Mary' for the intentions of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and on every clear or white bead, I say that 'Hail Mary' for Peace in our world. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy on us!

Mary, Queen of Peace, pray of us! Amen.

Second Decade (Red and clear or white beads)
State the Mystery of the day

Pray:

Jesus, Source of Mercy; Mary Bearer of Mercy, on every "red" 'Hail Mary', I pray in reparation for the blood spilled from every baby wrenched from its mother's womb through abortion. I know that even as you hold and comfort each of these precious little ones, the horror of their slaughter screams for justice to be meted out upon our world. May these "red" 'Hail Mary's' be a source of reparation for our sin. I also offer each "white/clear" 'Hail Mary' for the mothers and fathers of these aborted little ones, that they may receive the grace to repent of this sin, turn to Jesus, and receive the gift of salvation with open hearts. Heal them of the emotional and psychological wounds that this sin has caused as you pour out the graces of conversion upon them. Let them now witness for life! Amen

(Then continue with the Our Father, 10 Hail Mary's, and Glory Be)

Third Decade (Black and clear or white beads: The black beads symbolize the entire medical profession that participates in pro-death activities: all doctors, nurses, and assistants, helpers of every type that contribute to abortion, euthanasia, anti-life practices of every sort. Every clear or white 'Hail Mary' is for their conversion, repentance, and courage in standing against this crimson tide of death!)
State the Mystery of the day

Pray:

Lord Jesus; Mother Mary, in this decade I offer reparation for all the sins of the medical personnel that act in the interest of death in our society and in our world. I plead also for their conversion to your truth. Let them see the truth of what they are doing, see the horror of it, rend their hearts in repentance, then work for Life and for You, Jesus, all the rest of their days. Amen.

(Then continue with the Our Father, 10 Hail Mary's, and Glory Be)

Fourth Decade((Red, clear or white, and blue beads)

State the Mystery of the day

Pray:

Lord Jesus, I thank You for your incarnation in our human flesh. You were formed in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Your humanity at the moment of your conception gives us, each and every one, humanity at the moment of your conception. Had Satan had His way, You too would have been torn from your mother's womb, never to be born, and never to fulfill your destiny in the particular manner in which You did fulfill it. On every "green" 'Hail Mary' I thank You for those who in any way work for life. Give them continued courage, strength, peace of heart, and love. Protect them from all evil and increase their witness in this nation and in this world. Strengthen their families to understand the importance of their work and to support them in their stand for life.

Mother Mary, our mother, under the titles of Our Lady of Guadelupe, Mother of Perpetual Help, Queen of Peace, join us in our intercession for the end of all pro-death, pro-choice activities, Crush the dead of evil in our nation, our world, and in our personal lives. Roll back the crimson holocaust. With every "cleary/white" 'Hail Mary' of this decade advance the cause of your Divine Son, Jesus, the Incarnate Word! Stay the hand of Chastisement, and if it must fall - Protect your children. Amen.

(Then continue with the Our Father, 10 Hail Mary's, and Glory Be, followed by the Hail Holy Queen)

Prayer for the Dignity of Human Life

Lord and giver of all life, help u s to value each person, created in love by You. In Your mercy, guide and assist our efforts to promote dignity and value of all human life, born and unborn. We ask this through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to Abolish the Death Penalty

God of compassion, You let Your rain fall on the just and the unjust. Expand and deepen our hearts so that we may love as You love, even those among us who have cuased the greatest pain by taking life. For there is in our land a great cry for vengeance as we fill up death rows and kill the killers in the name of justice, in the name of peace. Jesus, our Brother, You suffered execution at the hands of the state, but You did not let hatred overcome You.

Help us to reach out to victims of violence, so that our enduring love may help them heal. You strengthen us in the struggle for justice. Help us to work tirelessly for the abolition of state-sanctioned death and to renew our society in its very heart so that violence will be no more. Amen.

(remember that Jesus Himself was a victim of the death penalty)

Prayer to End Abortion

Lord God, I thank You today for the gift of my life and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, yet I rejoice that You have conquered death by the resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, and never to stop defending life until all my brothers and sisters are protected, and our nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice not just for some, but for all, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Aborted Babies

Heavenly Father, Thou hast given us the gift of freedom to love and to follow in Thy ways and commands. Some parents choose to abuse this freedom by destroying the gift of life which Thou hast given to their offspring. Please forgive those who destroy human life by aborting their unborn babies. Give these unborn children the opportunity to enjoy Thee for all eternity, if it according to Thy ordinance. Assist me in being one in solidarity with Thy little ones by taking to heart the words of Thy Son, "whatever you did for one of these least brothers of Mine, you did for Me." (Mt. 25:40) Therefore, allow me today, Father, to adopt spiritually an unborn child and to offer my prayers, works, joys and sufferings for that little one, so that child will be able to be born and live for Thy greater honor and glory. We pray this in Jesus' name, in union with the Holy Spirit one God forever and ever. Amen.
